What’s happening this weekend? As usual, there is no way to make a short list.
Some of our favorite things to do in Charlottesville include Friday’s After Five, followed by First Friday’s. We love it so much, we built a package around it – try it out for yourself and tell us what you think.
The Wintergreen Summer Music Festival kicks off this weekend. This 31 day festival with 262 music and art events will surely delight all of your senses. If you get inspired to learn an instrument, give us a call – we know a guy.
‘Tis the season for blackberries and many of the local farms are open to pick your own. Blackberry wine lovers can choose farms that double as wineries, such as Hill Top Berry Farm and Winery. Pick your berries and sample some blackberry wine – it is worth every sip.
If you are looking for ways to get the kids to burn some energy, get the kids bouncing at Bounce ‘n Play or send them to C-ville’s best day camp – Triple C Camp. Your kids and sanity will thank you.
Did we miss something that we shouldn’t have missed? Tell us about it in the comments.

The last couple of weeks have reaffirmed one of the reasons I love Charlottesville so much; spring is so beautiful! The dogwoods coming into bloom, there are Cherry Blossom trees and any number of flowering bushes, trees and bulbs. This defines what the rest of the world calls “spring”.
Just in time to let spring fever set in, it is spring break for the kids in Charlottesville and Albemarle schools.
We have the solution to your spring feverish kids and parents.
Don’t forget to thank the teachers

A chance for kids to experiment with music: Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra will host the second annual Musical Instrument Petting Zoo. Kids will have a chance to touch and learn to make sounds on instruments. Once the kids pick the instrument, you can sign up for more lessons with Bay1Studios.
Kids in the Kitchen: The Junior League of Charlottesville hosts a huge event to teach kids about healthy living in fun ways that kids will really enjoy. (Way better than Mom & Dad giving a lecture about how they have to eat veggies.) Mom & Dad could also take a gourmet cooking lesson – Terre makes an awesome (and very healthy) meatloaf.
Spring has truly sprung when you see signs of the Easter Bunny. PVCC is hosting a fun Easter egg hunt for the kids. After the hunt, you can take the kids to Bounce-N-Play to bounce to their hearts’ content.

Saturday: In the morning, join the Martha Jefferson Foundation for the 16th annual Martha Jefferson 8K run & 4K walk and 1/3 mile Kid’s Dash. All that running will make you feel great, and you will be ready for Saturday night.
On Saturday night, there is a Swedish Fire Festival at Barren Ridge Vineyards. It sounds like a divine evening, combined with Alphorn playing! What would make this better? Rent a classic sports car to get there in style.
Sunday: Spring Forward! Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend. While you are yawning because of the one hour less sleep as normal, you can take the kids to Bounce-N-Play to let them bounce all that extra energy out.

During a meeting the other day, my mind was wandering and I started to think of Charlottesville like a theme park. We have the highs of the surrounding mountains and the lows of the gorgeous valley. We have a few loops for excitement through all the fun things to do in the area. There is never a time that I write the “what is going on this weekend” post that there isn’t a ton of really fun options. This weekend is no different.
Finally we are getting some cold temperatures. This means only good things for all of you snow bunnies. Wintergreen and Massenutten have been very busy making snow and getting the slopes ready for us.
For the “après ski” (or the instead of ski), Keswick Vineyard, Blenheim, Jefferson Vineyards and Castle Hill Cidery have gotten together and are offering a single passport for tastings to all four locations. If that wasn’t enough for you, you can always do more tastings at DuCard or First Colony, where you can include a few take home samples (by way of getting bottles of wine).
To get the kids out of the house and let them bounce off someone else’s walls, we finally have Bounce-N-Play as a WishWish partner. I love them and their bouncy toys. I love the good night’s sleep that follows even more.
