What to do this weekend in and around Charlottesville

Easter WeekendFirst Fridays kicks off the weekend with a bang. All the galleries on and around the downtown mall open their doors to showcase what’s hot in art right now. This is a free event and is as cool as it gets. Add on dinner at a hot downtown restaurant (like Tempo) and it is a memorable evening! Make it a luxurious weekend with an Omni add on and it will be unforgettable.

You can’t go wrong with a fun Easter Egg hunt on Easter weekend. The two we know of are at Carter Mountain (complete with stunning views of the Charlottesville area) and another in combination with the Tulip Festival – a showcase of spring beauty complete with an Easter Bunny.

And finally – City Market opens for the season on Saturday. As always, you can expect farm-fresh goodness in all the produce, herbs and plants along with fresh meats and bakery items. With all of this Spring in the air, it also couldn’t hurt to brush up on golfing skills with a quick lesson or two.

What’s going on this weekend?

Our weekly question is answered this week with one of my favorite people.

Friday: Dr. Seuss’s birthday is being honored with a fun birthday party at the Scottsville branch of the JMRL Library. (Can’t go wrong with Sneetch treats!)I will also be honoring him in a private celebration that will include The Lorax opening in theaters on his birthday.

First FridaysAlso on Friday evening is the famed First Fridays in which all the galleries on and around the downtown mall open their doors to showcase what’s hot in art right now. This is a free event and is as cool as it gets. Add on dinner at a hot downtown restaurant (like Tempo) and it is a memorable evening!

HikingSunday: It is March. Sunday is scheduled to be beautiful and hiking season is here! Finally. Although the weather has been unseasonably warm, March is my mental benchmark to me to start the hiking season. Shenandoah National Park has miles of great hikes. You can get started with a guided hike.

Art, Dancing & Football

A favorite event in Charlottesville is happening this weekend: First Fridays. You can stroll around the Downtown mall and see the current art from your favorite local artists (maybe find a new favorite). Dinner at Tempo Bar & Restaurant is always a great way to end the evening.

On Saturday, Hitkicker 99.1 is hosting the Hitkicker Hoedown at The Jefferson. You can ride a mechanical bull then nurse your wounds on the dance floor all night long.

On Sunday, people will gather around their TV’s to watch the biggest football game of the year (and the great commercials that are sure to entertain). Superbowl XLVI is in Indianapolis, but you can bring the fun home too. Don’t forget the munchies!

Oh, the fun things we can do!
