March Joyride

How many kids dream of being a rock star? How many actually try?

Our March Joyride gave four lucky Joyriders a chance to learn an instrument and sing a rock song in a single afternoon. Bay1Studios made it happen and the result may not have been perfect, but it was a lot of fun!

Oh, the fun things we did!

Keep an eye on our Facebook page to find out about our next joyride. It is scheduled for April 13th and is sure to be a lot of fun!

This weekend in Charlottesville

Instead of stressing about last minute gift ideas, finish your shopping at WishWish, then take some time off this weekend to actually enjoy the season (I know… novel concept.)

People tend to visit all the tourist attractions when they visit other cities, but somehow overlook those in their own back yard. I can’t tell you how many people I have talked to that have never been to Monticello. If you haven’t been to Monticello (or haven’t been in a while), now is a great time to visit. They have decorated for the holiday in a manner in which it would have been done by TJ himself. On your way back, you can stop by Michie Tavern.

Another holiday tradition that is often overlooked is actually going to see a production of the Nutcracker. This weekend, you can see it in two places. PVCC is hosting the only local live production or you can go to the Paramount and watch the Moscow Ballet’s production.

In case you missed your annual fresh cider donut, or need a last minute fix for the season, stop by Carter Mountain Orchard for their last weekend of the season. Is there anything better than fresh cider donuts? And because you’ve earned it, make an appointment for a Holiday Glow treatment.

The big bonus

Many companies with a history of giving a bonus are having to remind employees that “times are tight” and “we have to be responsible with bonuses”.

Think about your own experience for a moment. Assume that this year you are scheduled to get a bonus of $300. Not many people would scoff at $300 if they found it on the street, but when it is given to you as a thank you for the many hours of extra work or even a missed little league game or two, it isn’t much.

Now think about getting a gift of a balloon ride, or fly fishing, or getting a massage, or a weekend at a fancy downtown hotel, or any number of other experiences you could truly enjoy.

Which sounds more appealing? Which would motivate you to work harder? If you are like most people, you would agree that getting an experience that is memorable and much more appreciated. The bonus for the company is that these experiences cost less than the $300 bonus that fits into your budget.

Gift ideas from WishWish

There are only 16 days left before Christmas and only 11 before Hanukkah. We wanted to share a few ideas of how you could use a WishWish gift.

For your wife: She takes good care of you and everyone she loves. Help replenish her with a luxurious massage, followed by a SilkPeel facial rejuvenation. Then you can cook her a romantic gourmet dinner. If that is beyond your skills, we’ve got you covered. Now you have resolved that “what to do for a gift” problem and shown her how much you really appreciate her. All that PLUS, you don’t have to go into a store and it can be ordered at the last minute.

For your husband: He is a great husband and a great father, but without getting a second mortgage on the house, you can’t very well get that tech thing he wants (and will be outdated before New Year’s. So what’s left? You can rent him a fancy sports car, and then let him pile the clubs in the back and send him for a golf lesson to improve his game. He will remember this day for longer than any gadget you could imagine would last.

For your employees: In an age where we are so very politically correct, budgets are very tight and, companies often default to the “easy” gift, we have a solution for you. A holiday bonus as a “thank you” to employees who have been doing break-back work all year can be tough. Is that $500 you can afford really going to make them “feel good”? Or would an opportunity for a sunrise balloon ride make them really feel appreciated? (Our bet is the experience will be remembered – but what happened to the small bonus will be forgotten – AND it is cheaper for your bottom line). Since not everyone wants to fly in a balloon, you can give a choice of gifts by giving your team WishWish gift cards that allow them to choose the memorable experience that is right for them.

Who else is on your list that you need help with?

Work on your degree of “Do-ology”

At WishWish, we are starting a school of “Do-ology”. The teaching staff is a culmination of not only us, but people who can help us better enjoy all those fun things to do.

The professor for today is Mark Thompson from Starr Hill Brewing Company.

What questions do you have for our expanding teaching staff of Do-ology?
